If you follow me on instagram –> @frolicwithme, you may see frequent stories about one of my favorite breakfast foods, açaí bowls. I LOVE making these bowls because they are super refreshing, healthy, and give me energy especially on those days I am feeling sluggish. I’ve had some people reach out wondering how I make mine, so I thought I would share on here.
All of the ingredients I use are organic and fresh from the produce isle with the exception of the cherries which I buy from Costco. They are organic frozen dark sweet cherries (pitted of course). The rest I pre-cut myself and store in the freezer. I use a large Ninja blender on the variable setting at approximately level 5. This recipe is made for 2 people so cut in 1/2 if you are just making it for yourself.
2 Samabazon açaí packs
2 cups frozen cherries
2 cups sliced frozen banana
2 cups frozen blueberries
2 cups frozen mango
1/2 cup of almond milk or coconut milk – sub if you prefer
1 tablespoon of Maca powder – optional
- Let the açaí pack thaw at room temperature for about 3 minutes then break into chunks.
- Add all the ingredients into the blender.
- Blend, mash, blend, mash, blend, mash! Keep doing this until there are no more frozen chunks. Keep in mind that blending for too long consistently will cause it to liquify when you want a thick consistency.
- Top with your favorite toppings. I like to use sliced strawberries, maple flax and chia seed blend (found at Whole Foods), mango chunks, coconut flakes, hemp hearts and honey.
Get creative and substitute if you have allergies or don’t like certain fruits.
